Mosque Visit followed by a Wine Tasting at the Granary of the Pécs Bishopric
The Church of Candlemas of the Blessed Virgin Mary, located in the city center, is an unparalleled Turkish-era monument in Hungary and the most significant work of Turkish-Islamic architecture in the country. The interior of the church is illuminated by pleasant, greenish-yellow lights filtering through the pointed arch, honeycomb-patterned windows. Visitors can admire the beautifully decorated prayer niche, the mihrab, oriented towards Mecca, and discover the calligraphic lines of the Quran on some wall sections. Next to the sacristy and the Chapel of Saint Maurus, one can see the pools that were used in the former bathhouse of Pasha Gázi Kászim. This enchanting location represents the meeting point of East and West, where visitors can explore the sacred spaces of various interacting religions with the help of modern tools, exciting interactive elements, and animations. Through this, the symbol of Pécs reveals the different forms and histories the building has taken over the ages.
The church belongs to the Pécs Cathedral Parish.
In the heart of Pécs, next to the Cathedral, stands the Granary Event House. As its name suggests, the 18th-century building was originally used for storing grain. Today, this four-story facility serves multiple purposes, including a tourist information point, a venue for community events, and an exceptional location for high-quality hospitality and wine tastings.
Price: 9,700 HUF per person. The tour includes an English speaking guide and a tasting of four wines with scones (a traditional Hungarian pastry).
The tour requires a minimum of 10 participants to commence.
